LEICESTER boss Simon Stead admitted his side will be “fired-up” to make up for a disappointing show at Belle Vue.
The Lions went down 62-28 at the National Speedway Stadium earlier today as they failed to get to grips with the dusty conditions.
Only Kenneth Bjerre and Hans Andersen offered any real opposition to the Manchester club as they piled on the misery in the baking afternoon heat.
Stead said: “We had a chat after the meeting and the boys want to make amends as soon as possible. Trust me the boys are fired-up.
“It should be a different story on our track. The boys just couldn’t get dialled in and the Belle Vue lads had the set-up right from the off.
“It was a very tough day at the office for all of us. But we’ve got the chance to hit back immediately in front of our home fans. That’s what we will aim to do.”
The Lions were immediately up against it as the Aces roared into a six-point lead. The Grand Prix ace Craig Cook was forced to withdraw through illness and that only served to inspire the home side.
Ironically it was former Leicester ace Erik Riss who did the damage guesting for the injury Steve Worrall for Belle Vue.
He scored an outstanding 13 points while home reserves Jye Etheridge and Damian Drozdz also were in fine form.
After Bjerre and Andersen the rest of the Lions were well below par with only 11 points from the remaining five riders.
The two teams make a quick return for the return match tonight at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena (7.30pm).
